Today, between 70 million and 100 million people in America are living with a criminal record, which hinders their chances of success, even long after they have been exonerated or have completed their sentence.

Due to the stigma of their records, these individuals face significant challenges finding a job, securing housing, or attending college—challenges that will only be compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Expunge Colorado is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to providing free access to record-sealing legal services for eligible criminal cases in Colorado. As a leader in training organizations to impediment expungement clinics, EC is taking its knowledge national.

Record Clearance in the U.S. is considered a privilege and not a right resulting in a costly and complicated process. Expunge Colorado aims to alleviate these burdens and educate on the barriers.

About the Project

Expunge Colorado has teamed up with OrganizingTogether to scale programs and outputs from the local and state level in Colorado to the national. The goal of the project is to ensure Expunge Colorado’s sustainable growth through strategic partnerships, message framing, and alternative fundraising strategies. Over the next 6-12 months, OrganizingTogether will assist Expunge Colorado’s Executive Director in building an effective board process, create a strategic plan for partnerships and corporate sponsorships, develop fundraising content and outreach materials, create an online merchandise store, and advise on best budgetary practices for long-term growth. Stay tuned for more updates!
