Michigan Overdose
Data to
Action
The Michigan Overdose Data to Action (MODA) is an initiative focused on supporting evidence-based overdose strategies through the use of data and by providing access to available training, resource and network supports. The Prevention Network of Michigan hired OrganizingTogether Consultancy Group to assess overdose prevention capacity in the State of Michigan and identify organizations to receive capacity building services through a mini-grant program.
About the Project
In addition to conducting the OCA, the Prevention Network and OT-Consultancy Group have designed an online e-learning and living library space. You can join the MODA Network at www.moda.community. The results of the OCA were used in the evaluation of capacity building mini-grant proposals. Each participant organization received unique and tailored feedback. This report is an overview of general trends across the state of Michigan.
This assessment is intended to guide overdose prevention organizations through a process of interrogating their organization’s strengths as well as challenges related to implementing an overdose prevention program. The assessments will also be used to determine eligibility for capacity building grants ranging from $1,000 up to $40,000.

Outcomes
Our commitment to preventing overdoses continues to support prevention organizations across the state and beyond.

Organizational Capacity Assessment (OCA)
Our consultants conducted phone interviews with 58 overdose prevention organizations in the State of Michigan. Using geographic information systems (GIS), our team made key recommendations to the Department of Health and Human Services.
Capacity Building
Based on the 58 OCAs completed, 27 prevention programs drafted proposals to address the recommendations. The Prevention Network distributed $200,000 among 18 of them. Twelve courses focused on evidence based overdose prevention practices were co-created with prevention organizations and are free to the public.
